Attention

In an older post I have had received this reply:

The STOP HONORCIDE! campaign was launched on Mother's Day 2008. The goal of the campaign is to prosecute honorcides to the fullest extent of the law. We want honorcide to be classified as a hate crime and we advocate for every existing hate crime legislation to be amended to include honorcide.

Thanks.

Where does it take place?

I am talking about this subject because I believe that it is a very important case that “we” should shed the lights on it.

I’m going to focus today about where it takes place. According to various websites; most "honor" killings of women occur in Muslim countries, “such killings "have been reported in Bangladesh, Britain, Brazil, Germany, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Pakistan, Morocco, Sweden, Turkey, Uganda, Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran."” Adding to that it also takes place “Throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Statistic showed in the “United Nations Population Fund” that approximately 5,000 women are killed each year. But off course this number is very small, when taking into consideration the number of deaths in Turkey, Jordan, Pakistan, and Palestine.

Who kills the girls and women? Not a very hard question; the “typical killer” is usually the father, the husband, or even the brother of the victim. In most cases the killer is chosen by the family or their communities which are the teenage brothers because they spend less time in prison and their punishment will be lighter.

I will shed the lights more today on these crimes that take place in my own country. Jordan!

On the 18th of April 1994; a 16-year-old girl was “killed at the hands of her brother because she had been raped by another brother.”

Rana Husseini, a journalist for the New York Times; stated the “"[My work involves] exposing these crimes for what they really are, cold-blooded and senseless murders, and struggling with the law to restore dignity to women and consider them full human beings," she told IRIN in the capital Amman.”

Till now there is no accurate number on the deaths that take place in Jordan but according to a “report by the Christian Science Monitor in March 2005, honour crimes account for one-third of all violent deaths in Jordan." What makes me think more is the continuation on this websites that says: “This runs counter to the perception of Jordan as one of the most liberal countries in the Middle East, where gender discrimination is officially minimal; women have voting rights, are present in parliament and government and hold influential positions in other sections of society.” and yet honor crimes still takes place!

According to Husseini, almost 70 percent of murdered women in honour killings are virgins!

Another example of these crimes is:- Two sisters, aged 20 and 27, were killed with axes in the capital Amman on Monday, according to a report in the Jordan Times newspaper. Officials told the paper the three brothers - who are in detention - admitted that they carried out the killing for reasons of "family honour".

“It was a brutal scene - one victim's head was nearly cut clean off.”

"Under the existing law, people found guilty of committing honour killings often receive sentences as light as six months in prison." I believe that murders should stay in prison for the rest of their lives. To suffer, to feel the pain they caused when they killed another!

Bleutooth.........

I talked in one of my previous posts about wibree and did a comparison between it and bluetooth . Well, I had a comment on that post that caught my attention . The writer of the comment wants to know more about bluetooth. For this reason I will write a complete post talking about this issue in the coming days ...................................

What is bar code?According to http://www.inventors.about.com/ , it is method of automatic identification and data collection. The first patent for a bar code type product (US Patent #2,612,994) was issued to inventors Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver on October 7, 1952. The Woodland and Silver bar code can be described as a "bull's eye" symbol, made up of a series of concentric circles. Well , this is not the subject of the post . The subject is RFID ,Radio Frequency Identification , which is a technology similar in theory to barcode identification but more advanced . According to http://www.webopedia.com/ With RFID, the electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in the RF portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is used to transmit signals. An RFID system consists of an antenna and a transceiver, which read the radio frequency and transfer the information to a processing device, and a transponder, or tag, which is an integrated circuit containing the RF circuitry and information to be transmitted.

Moreover , RFID systems can be used just about anywhere, from clothing tags to missiles to pet tags to food -- anywhere that a unique identification system is needed. The tag can carry information as simple as a pet owners name and address or the cleaning instruction on a sweater to as complex as instructions on how to assemble a car. Some auto manufacturers use RFID systems to move cars through an assembly line. At each successive stage of production, the RFID tag tells the computers what the next step of automated assembly is.

One of the key differences between RFID and bar code technology is RFID eliminates the need for line-of-sight reading that bar coding depends on. Also, RFID scanning can be done at greater distances than bar code scanning. High frequency RFID systems (850 MHz to 950 MHz and 2.4 GHz to 2.5 GHz) offer transmission ranges of more than 90 feet, although wavelengths in the 2.4 GHz range are absorbed by water (the human body) and therefore has limitations.
RFID is also called dedicated short range communication (DSRC).

The question asked by many people right now is : Can RFID replace Bar code identification ?

In fact I asked this question to two specialists and they had two different answers . The first answer was "because the price of a barcode is so low, it is unlikely that RFID would be a viable replacement". The other specialist disagreed with that , he claimed that RFID is so much more advanced than Bar code . And because of the huge advantage it have money will not be a big problem.

I asked the the same spacialists if RFID code can replace UPS code and they had the same answers as the first time .

I also searched the internet to find out that there are 2 points of view concerning this issue. Some are against the idea of RFID replacing Barcode identification and others are with it .

I know I am not a specialist , but if I was asked my opinion I will be completely with

RFID replacing Barcode . The reason is that we cant refuse a new technology because we dont have money to pay for it . It doesn't make sense!!!!!

In the end , I hope you got information you didn't know before from this post , because this is the main concept of our work .

Continuing the New Subject…

Every year around the world an increasing number of women are killed in the name of "honor."

Ankara, Turkey -Ignoring the pleas of his 14-year old daughter to spare her life, Mehmet Halitogullari pulled on a wire wrapped around her neck and strangled her - supposedly to restore the family's honor after she was kidnapped and raped... "I decided to kill her because our honor was dirtied," the newspaper Sabah quoted the father as saying. "I didn't listen to her pleas, I wrapped the wire around her neck and pulled at it until she died" (The Associated Press).

Sunday May 11 2008:- 'My daughter deserved to die for falling in love'

“For Abdel-Qader Ali there is only one regret: that he did not kill his daughter at birth. 'If I had realised then what she would become, I would have killed her the instant her mother delivered her,' he said with no trace of remorse.”

The story in short is that Rand Abdel-Qader, 17 years old, was murdered because of her infatuation with a British soldier in Basra, southern Iraq. Her father remains a free man today. “Despite having stamped on, suffocated and then stabbed his student daughter to death.”

What astonishes me every time I read a devastating story about honor killings is the way some people react to it – in this case the police officers who arrested Abdel-Qader for exactly two hours “congratulated him on what he had done.”

Rand died on the 16th of March. After her father discovered that she had been seen in public talking to the British soldier known as Paul. Considering that he was not only was the enemy, but the invader and a Christian.

While Rand’s father was hurting her, her mother called her two sons to hold back their father who choked on Rand’s throat with his leg but instead of controlling their father – they joined in as well!

So where does Honor Killing takes place? To know more come back again for more details about a heart-breaking reality that takes place in the world we live in!

Changing the Subject!

Have you ever thought that by talking to a guy might get you killed? Have you ever thought that by receiving a phone call from a guy might get you killed as well? Believe It or not these “Stupid” moves in our point of view, which might get a girl killed, have happened and it is still happening to this day. It’s so sad when you actually think about it and because of this I am going to talk about “Honor Killing of Women”

To start with, how can honor killing be defined? Honor killing of women can be defined as acts of murders in which a woman is killed for her actual or sense of her immoral behavior. These immoral behaviors may include the form of talking with an unrelated male, being a victim of rape, seeking a divorce, refusing to marry the man chosen by one's family or consensual sexual relations outside marriage.

These acts stated above may seem brutal or to us even damn crazy but what is even more brutal is a wife who was killed by her husband because he dreamt of her; committing adultery! Women have also been killed for disrespecting their husbands. (To read the example in more details go to the website and read -- "What can precipitate an "honor" killing?")

Hundreds, if not thousands, of women are murdered by their families each year in the name of family "honor." It's difficult to get precise numbers of honor killing; since the murders frequently go unreported, the perpetrators unpunished, and the concept of family honor justifies the act in the eyes of some societies.

This is the subject that I have decided to write about, because I believe that this is a very important subject that some of us may hear about it every now and then -- but not actually believing that it takes place every day of our lives!
