To start with, how can honor killing be defined? Honor killing of women can be defined as acts of murders in which a woman is killed for her actual or sense of her immoral behavior. These immoral behaviors may include the form of talking with an unrelated male, being a victim of rape, seeking a divorce, refusing to marry the man chosen by one's family or consensual sexual relations outside marriage.
These acts stated above may seem brutal or to us even damn crazy but what is even more brutal is a wife who was killed by her husband because he dreamt of her; committing adultery! Women have also been killed for disrespecting their husbands. (To read the example in more details go to the website and read -- "What can precipitate an "honor" killing?")
Hundreds, if not thousands, of women are murdered by their families each year in the name of family "honor." It's difficult to get precise numbers of honor killing; since the murders frequently go unreported, the perpetrators unpunished, and the concept of family honor justifies the act in the eyes of some societies.
This is the subject that I have decided to write about, because I believe that this is a very important subject that some of us may hear about it every now and then -- but not actually believing that it takes place every day of our lives!
Dana!
