New radio technology keeps troops in touch

In this post I will talk about RoIP which is an abreviation for Radio over Internet Protocol.
According to http://www.www-935.ibm.com/ RoIP is a suite of technologies that allows two-way radio traffic to be transmitted over an internet protocol network. RoIP extends the reach of radio systems by using an organisation’s existing wide-area network (WAN) infrastructure to route radio signals between base stations. By installing radio-enabled gateway routers at base stations and dispatch consoles, voice signals can be transported over an IP network.

The main advantage of this technology is that it provides an easy way to improve the efficiency of two-way radio by leveraging existing investments in IP networks. Another advantage is that it allows two-way radios to communicate with desk and mobile phones. This provides flexibility in communication and less costs. Moreover, organisations can seamlessly distribute workloads between operations centres to cover peak periods and improve responsiveness during disaster situations or system failures.
Lately, the Air Force improved this technology by leading a joint implementation of a new "radio over Internet protocol routed network" communication system, known as the RIPRnet. This technology extended the range of convay radios by tying them with internet based technology.
It was used in the war on iraq and succeeded.
Well, this was just an introduction for RoIP!!
There is many more to know about this technology. For example, How can we measure custom publishing results with RoIP?The answer of this question and many others will be written in further posts. So,keep in touch.
